Flock and Rally Communications & Marketing, a progressive creative agency based in Columbia, South Carolina, is searching for a director of advertising to join its team of driven, collaborative professionals. The firm integrates branding, public relations, marketing, traditional advertising, digital advertising, social media and more into campaigns for a diverse base of clients, ranging from local nonprofits to large-scale businesses. The agency serves industry sectors ranging from hospitality, lifestyle and tourism to business, technology, commercial real estate, economic development and more. 

This position is responsible for managing and growing the advertising department, planning and implementing advertising strategies and creative for clients, project management, and various digital communications. The position is based at our downtown Columbia, S.C., headquarters and reports to the executive vice president (EVP). Compensation is based on experience.

Areas of Focus 

Advertising 

  • Develop advertising plans for clients ranging from small ($5,000) to large ($200,000+) budgets, recommending various combinations of social media, traditional advertising, digital ad tactics and other marketing methods.

  • Execute advertising plans across a variety of clients including managing deadlines, budgeting and reporting.

  • Refine and further develop advertising processes for the company.

  • Seek new ways to be competitive in the market and grow advertising sales under the direction of the chief strategy officer (CSO) and chief operations officer (COO).

  • Perform business development for new or expanded ad clients under the direction of the CSO.

  • Stay abreast of current trends in the advertising industry, including trends and opportunities in the markets the agency serves.

  • Ensure advertising rate card and media kit folders are maintained and up to date.

  • Partner with operations manager to ensure proper invoicing and tracking reporting standards for ad department.

  • Assemble and submit annual advertising award entries in coordination with EVP.

  • Train and teach internal staff on advertising best practices.

Content and Creative

  • Collaborate in the ideation and creation of overall advertising creative strategy.

  • Copywrite advertising messaging.

  • Determine graphic layouts, iconography and overall visual aesthetic for ads.

Project Management

  • Lead, oversee and manage a variety of advertising clients and projects.

  • Keep up with client communications, deadlines and project details.

  • Develop and deliver scopes of work, budgets and timelines to clients, communicating project status and deliverables to the client clearly and effectively.

  • Manage your client’s projects to be on time and on budget.

  • Manage team members on various projects under one client umbrella.

  • Ensure that all work produced for your client aligns with its brand standards, visual and messaging guidelines and approved campaign creative elements.

Must Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 5+ years of experience in developing and implementing advertising and digital marketing strategies.

  • Experience managing projects, clients and deadlines.

  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Self-directed while managing projects from initiation to completion.

  • Demonstrate professionalism and confidence in working with clients, vendors and team members.

Preferred Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of different digital marketing channels.

  • Good knowledge and experience with online marketing tools and best practices.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively in a creative agency environment.

  • Leadership experience managing teams.
