Job Description
Overview of Position
Flock and Rally is seeking a Public Relations Specialist who knows how to spot a story, pitch it with purpose, and manage the details that turn ideas into earned media results. This role is ideal for a strong writer and media-savvy professional who thrives in an agency environment and understands how PR fits into a broader integrated strategy.
The Public Relations Specialist supports PR strategy and planning, PR writing and storytelling, media outreach, interview bookings, press events, community relations and crisis communications across a diverse client portfolio. You'll work under the direction of the Director of Channel Strategy and on varying project teams across the agency.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Public Relations
Write and edit press releases, media pitches, advisories, talking points and press materials.
Distribute press releases and manage media follow-ups.
Pitch stories to local, regional, national and trade media.
Coordinate and manage media interviews, including prep and scheduling.
Plan and execute press events, media briefings and community activations.
Support PR strategy and planning.
Support crisis communications planning and response.
Support community relations initiatives.
Strategy
Monitor and stay abreast with industry trends.
Collaborate with account teams to support PR and integrated marketing strategies.
Support client relationships.
Qualifications
4-6 years of experience in media relations, public relations, communications or related experience.
Exceptional AP style writing and editing skills.
Proven experience pitching media and securing earned media coverage.
Understanding of today’s media landscape.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced agency environment.
Professional, confident communicator with strong attention to detail.
Preferred Experience
Agency experience.
Experience booking TV, radio and podcast interviews in the South Carolina market.
Experience with media tools such as Muck Rack and TVEyes.
Experience supporting press events, community relations and crisis communications.
Experience working in integrated marketing and cross-channel storytelling.
This is a full-time, nonexempt position and requires occasional night/weekend hours. Candidate must live in the Columbia, South Carolina region. While the firm observes a hybrid and flexible work environment, employee must be regularly available for local meetings and client needs.
