Overview of Position

Flock and Rally Integrated Communications & Marketing, a progressive, women-owned agency based in Columbia, South Carolina, is seeking a managing director to join our team of #flockstars. This is a senior leadership position focused on the management of people and client work, reporting directly to the executive vice president.

The managing director will spend their days helping to maintain efficient work flow, manage people, resolve issues, create new processes, watch over the work that is being produced — ensuring excellence in all we do — and make sure everyone is performing to their maximum ability. This is a vitally important role due to the people-focused nature of the company. The health and wellness of our team is of the utmost importance and the person who fills this role will lead as a mentor and coach, investing in the growth of the staff. Agency experience is preferred.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and hold accountable, all staff serving in the client services sector of the company.

  • Serve as chief client relations manager; diagnosing and solving issues, focusing on client retention and ensuring clients are happy.

  • Assess and manage staff capacity and billability.

  • Work with directors to develop strategy for new and existing client proposals.

  • Serve as the chief “work watcher,” developing systems to maintain excellence in all client service areas.

  • Keep up with emerging trends in marketing and communications.

  • Develop and maintain best practices for the agency.

  • Develop strategy for existing clients.

  • Manage team assignments with Account Director.

  • Focus on the growth of each and every staff member on the client services team.

  • Manage the organization of people as the company grows, determining the appropriate times for restructuring.

  • Serve on the executive leadership team and collaborate with other core business function area leaders.

  • Serve as sage on client projects, jumping in to assist staff and clients when needed.

  • Identify hiring needs and work with executive leadership to fill open positions in client services.

  • Identify training and learning needs and leverage resources to ensure proper training and education is completed.

  • Utilize people metrics to drive key insights and decisions around growth and retention.

  • You possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • You have excellent time management skills with the ability to manage high volume and produce high-quality work on tight deadlines.

  • You have natural leadership skills with experience delegating, managing, and mentoring a high-performing creative team.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related area of study.

  • 7+ years of people management.

  • 5+ years serving in a leadership capacity.

  • Experience working in a creative agency.

  • Experience using collaborative team communication and project management applications like Asana.

  • Candidate must live in the Columbia, South Carolina region. While the firm observes a hybrid and flexible work environment, employee must be regularly available for local meetings and client needs.

  • COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements.
